Guildford Train Stations: Guildford & London Road

Guildford has two stations. The main one is Guildford, on Station Approach. London Road (Guildford) is a smaller stop on the line to London Waterloo via Cobham. Here is what each offers.

Guildford has two stations. Guildford station (Station Approach, GU1 4UT) has South Western Railway trains to London Waterloo, Portsmouth, Farnham and Ascot, plus Great Western Railway services. Its ticket office is open 06:15 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 21:00 on Sunday. London Road (Guildford), on York Road, GU1 4DQ, is on the Waterloo route via Cobham.

Two stations, different jobs

Guildford is the main station, on Station Approach, GU1 4UT. It has trains in several directions and is staffed all day.

London Road (Guildford) is on York Road, GU1 4DQ. It is a smaller, part-time staffed station on one of the routes to London Waterloo.

Where the trains go

South Western Railway's timetables for 20 September to 12 December 2026 show four route groups through Guildford:

  • Guildford and Woking to London Waterloo (timetable 6): via Worplesdon, Woking, Surbiton and Clapham Junction.
  • Guildford via Effingham Junction and Cobham to London Waterloo (timetable 11): via London Road (Guildford), Clandon, Horsley, Effingham Junction, Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon, Oxshott, Claygate, Hinchley Wood, Surbiton, Wimbledon and Clapham Junction.
  • Portsmouth and Haslemere to London Waterloo (timetable 17): southbound through Farncombe, Godalming, Milford, Witley, Haslemere, Liphook, Liss, Petersfield and Havant to Portsmouth Harbour.
  • Guildford to Farnham and Ascot via Aldershot (timetable 12): via Wanborough, Ash and Aldershot.

South Western Railway says you can reach London Waterloo from Guildford in under an hour.

Great Western Railway also runs trains from Guildford. When we checked its station page on 9 October 2026, the departure board showed its services to Reading and to Gatwick Airport.

London Road (Guildford) appears only in timetable 11, the route via Cobham.

Guildford station

Ticket office: Monday to Saturday 06:15 to 21:00, Sunday 07:00 to 21:00. It is in the main booking hall. There are ticket machines, and the station has ticket gates.

Staff: National Rail lists staff help as available at all times.

Step-free access: National Rail rates the station as step-free category B1. That means step-free access to all platforms, but it may be by long or steep ramps or by the street. There are no lifts. National Rail also notes that some tactile paving is missing on platforms 1, 3 and 4.

Toilets: on platform 2, next to the subway ramp, with an accessible toilet operated by a radar key that staff can lend you. There are baby changing facilities.

Waiting rooms: on platforms 3/4 and 5/6.

Other facilities: cash machines, shops, places to eat and drink, Wi-Fi, a taxi rank and car hire. There is no luggage storage.

Bikes: South Western Railway lists 378 cycle storage spaces, in compounds, stands and racks, with CCTV.

Tickets: South Western Railway's page says contactless bank cards and Oyster cards cannot be used to touch in at Guildford. You need a ticket or a loaded smartcard.

Rail replacement buses leave from the bus lay-by in the station forecourt, off Walnut Tree Close.

Parking at Guildford station

South Western Railway lists two station car parks. Charges as listed on 9 October 2026:

  • Premium car park (250 spaces): peak £15.50, Saturday £10.50, Sunday and bank holidays £4.00.
  • Standard car park (77 spaces): peak £11.00, Saturday £6.00, Sunday and bank holidays £2.00.

London Road (Guildford) station

Ticket office: Monday to Friday 06:30 to 13:00, Saturday 09:00 to 14:00, closed Sunday. There are ticket machines. There are no ticket gates.

Staff: part time. National Rail lists staff help as unavailable, so do not count on assistance without booking.

Step-free access: category B3. National Rail says there is some step-free access to platforms, but it may be in one direction only. There are no lifts. If you need step-free access both ways, use Guildford station.

Facilities: a waiting room, toilets (no accessible toilet), help points, a taxi rank and 74 cycle storage spaces.

Parking: 124 spaces, 2 of them accessible. Charges as listed by South Western Railway on 9 October 2026: peak £9.70, off-peak £4.90, Saturday £4.90, Sunday £4.90, or £1.60 per hour.

Getting to the stations

Guildford Borough Council puts the station about 15 minutes on foot from the Castle, and about 750 metres from Guildford Museum near the bottom of the High Street. Buses to the Royal Surrey County Hospital call at the station.
